Music Monday: Dakari Eli Takes R&B Back to it's Roots With Black Dove Blue Song EP

“I can’t stop from living, I’m a spiritual soldier”

I love a good twerk song as much as the next but I also love lyrical expressions of feminine energy.

Off the heels of her banging single "Why Him", singer/songwriter Dakari Eli released her debut project Black Dove Blue Song and it was not what I was expecting at all. Today's RnB is a mix of party music, sexual liberation and just enough hip-hop for artists to try and compete. Black Dove Blue Song is real GROWN FOLKS MUSIC.  From relationships and sex to personal growth and self awareness, Dakari gives us raw emotion, amazing vocals and relatable lyrics.

Now, if you know me, I don't just support music because it was written by someone I know/adore. The music and the artist have to connect with me on a deep emotional level for me to say "wow that's dope."  Like so many other's, quarantine tore my relationship to shreds and left me looking to piece myself back together, so when I heard her sing: "there's no swifter blade than the blade of truth, but none of that all matters cause I love you, go on and lie to me, so you can lie with me" CHILE I fell on the floor kicking screaming and crying so bad I had to listen to more. The more I listened the more I learned about me and that's what makes music has always been about for me.

Did I mention that she’s also the Editor-in-Chief of Urban Magazine and the producer and host of The Bigger Picture with Dakari?

Talk about a Pretti Beast, right?

Dakari wrote and arranged the project herself and teamed up with multi-platinum producer/composer Hassan Shareef to co-produce the eight-track EP. Shareef also created the instrumentation for my two favorite songs, “Away” and “Autumn Tears”.

The EP on Spotify, Apple Music and Tidal with the video for "Why Him" is streaming now on YouTube. I advise you to grab some candles, a glass of wine, and connect with the Queen within.
